Joal is on the mainland. Fadiouth is on an island built entirely on millions of oyster shells accumulated over centuries. A bridge links them. And on this island there is a cemetery where Catholics and Muslims have rested side by side for generations. And a thousand-year-old baobab whose roots have swallowed ancestral millet granaries.
TripAfro offers a full Joal-Fadiouth weekend: 2 days, 1 night at the Joal Lodge on full board. On 15 and 16 August 2026. One edition only this summer.

The Fadiouth cemetery is one of the few places in the world where two religions share the same ground, on the same island, for generations, without incident, without tension, without political symbol. Just a natural way of living together, passed down from father to son.
